Use of digital technologies in child and family social work
On 15 August Research in Practice published three open access videos which share findings around the increased use of digital technologies in social work.
Open access videos on developing person-centred practice
During the pandemic the use of digital technology in social care practice dramatically increased. This resulted in the widespread use of ‘virtual visits’ in casework where a video call to children and their families replaced home visits.
A Research in Practice briefing explores how COVID-19 affected child protection and what the implications are for future practice. Below are three open access videos which share findings around the increased use of digital technologies in social work and where there are opportunities to develop person-centred practice.

On 7 August the House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee published Connected tech:smart or sinister?
Domestic abuse and connected technology
The report covers the use of connected technology looking at the risks and harms, including data and privacy concerns and technology-facilitated abuse. The report finds that tech abuse is becoming increasingly common. It considers the role of connected devices in broadening and exacerbating patterns of domestic abuse. In relation to children, it also explores connected toys and data collection; smart speakers and online safety; and connected technology in schools.
