2018-19 DCS Peer Challenge Arrangements

Update:

Congratulations to Hampshire and IoWMilton Keynes and Slough (Triad 3) who have agreed Friday 15 February 2019 for their challenge day. Isabelle Gregory (contact details below) will be in touch to chase progress with other Traids.

The “Trial Run” Regional Improvement Plan is now available to DCSs only (The restricted v1.7 now available login to restrcited area first, contact Isabelle Gregory if you need help). The SESLIP team is preparing missing sections on continuing and new SESLIP improvement activities as well as ensuring co-ordination with the PiP and LGA support programmes. We plan to circulate a version 1.8 before the SE ADCS meeting on 5 October.

Thanks to Brighton and HoveBuckinghamshire, HampshireIsle of Wight, KentMilton Keynes, Slough, West Berkshire and Wokingham (9/19) for returning signed copies of the memorandum of undertanding which sets out the rationale for particpation in the SESLI Programme and the Peer Challenges in particular. For details please contact Isabelle Gregory.

Action Required:

Detailed arrangements are under way for the peer challenge of self-assessment arrangements that will culminate in the Regional Improvement Summit on 22 March 2019 – please save this date for DCSs and Lead Members.

Also please save the date 30 November 2018 for DCSs and management team members for the regional training and preparation day. Please contact Anna Wright for more details, and Isabelle Gregory to book your places. Thanks to the 22 deleagtes from 8 authorities who have already booked places.

Only three more self-assessemnts needed for a full set (Medway, Reading, and Surrey awaited); thanks to the other 16 for sharing. These documents are all available from the restricted DCS-only section of the website.

Janet Fraser of Ofsted writes:

Ofsted’s south east region is holding a social care conference for its HMI and regulatory inspectors on 14 December at a venue in London. We are very interested in innovative social work practice taking place in the South East and in looking at the new and emerging challenges children’s services face. We would welcome speakers from the sector to make a presentation, run a workshop or discussion.

The MoC area of the Seslip website now includes the latest versions of key documents, including the:

The revised guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2018 was released on the 20 May 2018 and can be found here. The statutory guidance will come into force on 3 September 2018 and will replace KCSiE 2016. One key addition is a new part (part 5) on advice for schools on responding to and supporting young victims of sexual violence and harassment.

NSPCC has produced a briefing document highlighting the main changes in the new version compared to the current one. It can be found here.
