Programme:

Children’s social care: Stable Homes, Built on Love – consultation closes 11 May

Update:

On 2 February DfE published Stable Homes, Built on Love, its response to the Independent Review of Social Care published in May 2022; the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel’s review into the tragic deaths of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson also published in May 2022; and the Competition and Markets Authority review of children’s social care provision published in March 2022.

Action Required:

The DfE has launched two separate consultation exercises: one on their proposed Children’s social care national framework and dashboard; the other on Child and family social worker workforce. Both consultations close on 11 May 2023.

Action Required:

Collaborating with Children’s Services in the LGA Family Hubs Peer Review, Dorset Library Service began to explore how we could develop our contribution to the Best Start in Life and Dorset Council’s: Our Children, Young People’s and Families Plan 2020-2023.

Update:

On 1 and 2 February DfE published updated national results for Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

Action Required:

The KS4 disadvantage gap index has widened compared to 2020/21, from 3.79 to 3.84. It is now at its highest level since 2011/12

Action Required:

“Around one in five of our population (20%) were in poverty in 2020/21 – that’s 13.4 million people; of these 3.9 million were children”.

Update:

NCB will host a free online conference “Improving early childhoods in the face of deepening uncertainty – Learning from A Better Start”  on 16 March 2023, 9:30am -1pm. Hear from the five partnerships: BlackpoolBradfordLambethNottinghamSouthend-on-Sea.

Action Required:

A Better Start (ABS) is the ten-year £215m programme set up by The National Lottery Community Fund. ABS partnerships work directly with families so they can play an active part in deciding on and designing the services and support they get, helping babies and very young children to get the best possible start in life.
