Exclusion Statistics 2021-22

On 20 July DfE published Permanent exclusions and suspensions in England for 2021-22

South East headlines

The South East average was 4.6 permanent exclusions per 10,000 pupils, compared to the national average of 7.9.

Congratulations to Milton Keynes who recorded zero permanent exclusions for the second year in a row.

FDAC evaluation headlines

With qualifications about the methodology and data quality:

  • Children with a primary carer in FDAC care proceedings were more likely to be reunified with their primary carer (52.0% versus 12.5%).
  • A higher proportion of FDAC parents had ceased to misuse drugs or alcohol by the end of the proceedings (33.6% versus 8.1%).
  • The proportion of hearings being contested was lower for FDAC care proceedings (4.2% versus 23.8%).
  • A lower proportion of FDAC cases used external expert witness assessments (7.7% versus 96.1%).
  • Children in FDAC sites had lower probability of being placed in LA care (28.6% versus 54.7%).
  • The positive outcomes for cases supported by FDAC is in line with the evidence on FDAC in the WWCSC’s Evidence Store and the literature base.

Take Your Place Leadership Development Programme

This is a free to access CPD leadership programme for third tier managers. The course will start with a residential on 31 October and 1 November 2023, followed by in person workshops on 23 November 2023, 17 January 2024 and a final session on 7 March 2024.  The workshops are being held in Reading at venue with good public transport links. Each SESLIP large authority has two places and small authorities a single place (we will also take names for reserves as last year not all authorities took up their full allocation).

Your final nominations need to be endorsed by your DCS and details sent to mark@markevansconsulting.co.uk. The deadline for applications is Friday 25 August 2023. Those nominated will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire with the Staff College to confirm their place.  More information is available in the flyer.

The implementation of family hubs: Emerging strategies for success
