Children’s Services Data Apprenticeships – Cohort 4 – NOW BOOKING

Update:

Data 2 Insight has opened pre-registration for Cohort 4 of its successful Children’s Services Data Apprenticeships which begins in February 2023. The course is funded by the Apprenticeship Levy. To stay in the loop, complete the “Join our mailing list” form on this page and we’ll make sure to email you when it’s time to apply. Action Required:

This is a tailored Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship, working with data and questions co-developed by the D2I community and delivered by a professional apprenticeship/training organisation called Corndel. We’ve done a lot of work since the scheme launched in 2020 to refine and adjust based on learner feedback with the intention that the course keeps getting better while continuing to deliver the same core learning goals and help LA colleagues develop industry-standard data analysis skills. Applications will open soon, with a deadline near Christmas for the initial application, so that we can spend January working through enrolment details.

Programme:

Systematic review of safeguarding practice for young people and adults who experienced child sexual exploitation.

Update:

On September 30 What Works for Children’s Social Care published a systematic review of Safeguarding practice for young people and adults who experienced child sexual exploitation.

Action Required:

Recommendations include: increased recognition from services that CSE impacts young people beyond the age of 18; a patient approach from professionals that recognises the impact of trauma history on the relationships service users build with them; and a joint commission and delivery of children’s and adults social care services to ensure the provision of continued support for those in need after age 18.

Schools causing concern – new guidance from DfE

Update:

On 7 October DfE published new guidance on Schools Causing Concern

Action Required:

This guidance describes how:

  • local authorities and regional directors will intervene in underperforming local-authority-maintained schools
  • regional directors will intervene in underperforming academies
  • regional directors will intervene in pupil referral units (PRUs) judged inadequate by Ofsted

Home learning environment (HLE) campaign

Update:

On 6 October the DfE and OHID launched a home learning environment (HLE) campaign. The campaign has been designed to encourage parents and carers to chat, play and read more with their children, developing their communication, language and literacy skills before starting school.

Library Rhyme Time

Update:

On 7 October ASCELLibraries Connected and LGA published a Library Rhyme Time Chart which highlights the ways in which library rhyme times support the elements of the recognised speech, language and communication pyramid.

Action Required:

We encourage library services to use the chart to engage with their early years teams and ensure they are included in speech, language and communication pathways and strategies. More from Liz Hodgman at LGA.

Advanced and Predictive Analytics Network (APAN) showcases Data to Insight on 7 November 2022

Update:

APAN‘s next open house will feature three talks all from D2I colleagues on 7 November at 2:00pm. Join the LGA Research and Information Team to listen to examples of data-related projects currently underway in their organisation using advanced and predictive analytics. Book here or email John Foster for an invitation

Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel briefing papers

Action Required:

The panel meets regularly to decide whether to commission national reviews of child safeguarding cases that are notified to it. The panel’s decisions are based on the possibility of identifying improvements from cases which it views as complex or of national importance.
