AD Education Network – next meeting Friday 10 July

Thanks to those able to join the AD Education Network meeting on 5 June. The notes are available here 

As agreed there will be an additional video meeting of the AD Education Network on Friday 10 July 10am to 11.30am. 

The joint event with the SEND Network will take place on 25 September. It is currently planned to happen in London and run from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

West Berkshire Headteachers “Thinkpiece”

This link takes you to a 30 minute webinar “thinkpiece” of West Berkshire headteachers discussing preparation for increasing the number of students in school.

Themes discussed include wider reopening, school development planning, adapting staff performance management.  

The Invisible Children – babies born during COVID-19 – an LGA webinar on Tuesday 16 June 10.30am

Pregnancy can be an exciting time, but also one of uncertainty and COVID-19 understandably adds further stress. Health and social care professionals need to be alert to the potential risk factors and have a plan in place to ensure new babies do not remain invisible to services.

Agencies will need to work together, once lock down is eased, and address families’ fears and concerns jointly, as they integrate back into society. This will prevent escalation of worries which could impact on babies’ development, parenting and bonding.

We will explore the impact of lack of face to face care, isolation, remote support, mothers’ concerns and reluctance to seek help and normal medical and social intervention. We will also consider how these new families can be supported.

We will hear from a mother who had her first baby during the peak of Covid-19 and, how this has impacted on her and her partner and from the YMCA, A Better Start Southend on their work to support breastfeeding mothers.

EdTech Demonstrator Programme

Heather Hadfield (contact details below) of South East Grid for Learning writes:

“The EdTech Demonstrator Programme’s brief has changed due to COVID-19 and is now focused for now on supporting remote learning. It is currently aimed at supporting any schools wanting help. That could be with G-suite or Microsoft Teams or improving staff confidence, parent engagement or school strategy. It is all free, paid for by DfE so is worth letting schools know about it.

The Programme will include:

• advice, guidance and training including a mix of group support through webinars, recorded content and peer to peer discussions. It will include content on the use of online learning platforms, digital safety, supporting the needs of pupils with SEND and how to promote pupil and teacher wellbeing during remote teaching.
• a universal offer of support, provided by the Delivery Partners and delivered through this website. This offer will draw on the work of the Demonstrator Schools and Colleges and will provide schools and colleges across the country with access to recorded tutorials, advice and guidance aimed at supporting effective remote working.
